aluminium wire scrap rate — clean stripped aluminium wire at a dealer yard

Aluminium wire scrap rate today is ₹319 per kg in Delhi for clean, stripped wire at the trader reference — against ₹160 per kg for mixed aluminium scrap at the kabadi yard (24 October 2026). The gap is all grade: dealers pay for recoverable metal, and insulated wire can lose 30–40% of its gross weight to plastic. Aluminium Wire Scrap Rate: Today’s Grade-Wise Prices

GradeWhat it looks like24 Oct reference
Clean bare wire (stripped)Shiny silver strands, no insulation, no rust₹319/kg — Delhi trader buy (scrapc Delhi bulletin, stamped 24 Oct)
Slightly tarnished wireDull grey surface, clean metal underneathJust under bare-wire price — oxidisation costs a small discount
Insulated wire (AC, wiring, cable)Plastic or rubber coating intactDeep discount — the insulation is 30–40% dead weight
Mixed aluminium scrapUngraded lot: sheet, wire, cans₹160/kg — Delhi kabadi rate (Tier A)

The ladder runs from exchange to yard. Clean bare wire at ₹319 is about 97% of the MCX anchor — the dealer’s cut covers only transport, bundling and margin. Mixed scrap at ₹160 is roughly half the anchor: the dealer’s share covers sorting, melting loss and the same margin. Tarnish barely moves the needle; insulation is what kills the price. The same chain sets our daily aluminium scrap rates.

How Dealers Price Your Aluminium Wire

Three things decide the aluminium wire scrap rate you actually get.

1. Insulation is dead weight. A kilo of insulated wire is not a kilo of aluminium. Dealers recover only 60–70% of the gross weight from coated wire, and they price it that way. Strip the plastic yourself and the same wire jumps from the bottom row of the table to the top.

2. Contamination gets docked. Copper bits from mixed demolition wire, steel screws, oil and paint all cut recovery. Copper stuck in your aluminium lot is the expensive mistake — copper pays at the copper grade, and our scrap metal grades guide shows how to tell them apart by colour and weight.

3. The anchor moves every session. MCX aluminium closed at ₹329.20 per kg on 23 October, up 1.17% on Friday. Trader buy prices track that anchor with a lag, so a ₹319 wire quote from this morning can shift by the afternoon if the futures move. Check the rate on the day you sell, not the day you decided to sell.

Aluminium Wire Scrap Rate for Insulated Wire: Why Stripping Pays

Take a worked example. You have 10 kg of old insulated house wiring. At roughly 35% plastic content, about 6.5 kg of recoverable aluminium sits inside. Stripped and sold near the ₹319 wire reference, that is worth about ₹2,070. Sold as-is at the insulated-wire discount, the same lot often fetches little more than mixed-scrap money — a few hundred rupees left in the plastic. A basic handheld wire stripper costs less than one such job’s difference and pays for itself the first afternoon you use it. The same sorting logic works for any scrap: our magnet test guide shows how dealers sort mixed lots in seconds.

5 Checks Before You Sell Aluminium Wire

  • Strip the insulation. Bare wire is top grade; coated wire is bottom. Never sell them mixed.
  • Keep wire away from sheet and cans. One mixed bag gets priced at its lowest grade. Three separate bags get three prices.
  • Pull out copper and steel bits. A magnet pulls steel in seconds; copper wire pays at copper’s grade — check today’s copper armature reference before you let it go mixed.
  • Weigh before you go. A kitchen scale tells you the gross number in advance; watch the tare on the dealer’s scale too.
  • Check the day’s rate. MCX moved 1.17% on Friday — that is the anchor behind every quote this week. Our formula guide shows how dealers convert futures into a per-kg offer.

Market Context (23–24 October)

The metal market rebounded into the weekend. LME copper gained about 1.8% on Friday to roughly $14,334 a tonne as the warehouse-stock build slowed — 800 tonnes added on Friday against 29,050 the day before. That strength carried into Indian futures: MCX aluminium closed at ₹329.20, and trade press BigMint reported on 24 October that copper armature scrap rose ₹2,000 a tonne to ₹706,000 while 304-grade stainless scrap jumped ₹4,000 to ₹128,000 a tonne ex-Delhi on rising overseas bids (SMM metals coverage). For aluminium wire sellers the read is simple: the anchor is firming, so this week’s quotes have room to hold.

FAQs

What is the aluminium wire scrap rate today?

Clean, stripped aluminium wire is ₹319 per kg at the Delhi trader reference on 24 October 2026. Mixed aluminium scrap is ₹160 per kg at the kabadi yard; the MCX aluminium anchor is ₹329.20.

Does insulated aluminium wire sell for less?

Yes — substantially. Insulation is 30–40% dead weight, and dealers discount coated wire to the recoverable metal only. Stripping it yourself moves the wire from the bottom of the grade ladder to the top.

How is the aluminium wire scrap rate calculated from MCX?

Dealers start from the MCX aluminium futures close, subtract their margin for transport, sorting and melting loss, and quote a per-kg buy price. Clean bare wire tracks the anchor most closely (today about 97% of it); every grade below takes a bigger cut.
